1) One
production directed by the
Artistic Director in the upcoming season will
be chosen by the Steering Committee at their June meeting prior to the beginning
of the script search submission process for that upcoming season. (e.g. scripts
to be considered for the 2009-10 season must be submitted by May of 2008 and
voted on in June of 2008.) The genre of the show (i.e. whether a comedy, drama,
musical, etc.), but not the show itself, will then made known to the Appleseed
membership, so that prospective directors can then base their submission choices
on that information.
a) The
Artistic Director will submit the scripts for the shows s/he desires to
direct to the Steering Committee by the May meeting, including one page
summaries of each script.
i) The
Artistic Director is to submit at least three scripts, which should include
variety of genres.
b) The
Steering Committee will review those summaries and be ready to vote on which
show the Artistic Director will direct at the June meeting.
i) If
the Artistic Director desires to direct more than one production during a
season, s/he must submit all other proposals through the normal script search
process.
2) Proposed
scripts are to be submitted to the Artistic Director between the dates of August
1st and November 1st to be considered for the upcoming season. (e.g. scripts to
be considered for the 2009-10 season must be submitted between Aug. 1 and
Nov. 1 of 2008.) The director must submit the script.
3) The
Artistic Director will then send out a Script Search Packet to directors
who have submitted a script within the designated time period. The packets will
contain an introductory letter, Script Proposal Worksheet, a time line of dates
for the process, and any other pertinent information.
4) The
Script Proposal Worksheets are due back to the Artistic Director by December 1st
if the script is to be eligible to continue to the next stage of the selection
process.
5) Throughout
the submission process, the Script Search Panel members will read all submitted
scripts and meet in December to discuss the submissions based on the information
from the Script Proposal Worksheets.
6) During
the month of January, the Script Search Panel will meet with each director
individually to discuss the submissions and address any concerns.
a) Musical
Directors who have committed to a proposed script will be expected to attend
this meeting.
7) The
Script Search Panel will then meet to select possible slates of shows, which are
then submitted by the Artistic Director to the Steering Committee at
their March meeting. At this meeting, Steering Committee members will also
receive a one-page summary of each script submitted, which will be prepared by
the Artistic Director, and a report detailing the Panel’s reasons for
selections/rejections of the submitted plays. All Steering Committee members are
expected to read the report and those summaries (and are encouraged to read the
entire scripts), and be ready to vote at the April meeting on the upcoming
Center Season slates as proposed by the Script Search Panel.
8) Individuals
are limited to submitting four scripts for consideration in an upcoming
season, but no more than two of the same genre (i.e. comedy, drama, musical,
etc.).
9) All
proposing directors are required to meet with the Artistic Director to discuss
production budget prior to returning the Script Proposal Worksheets.
10)
Each proposing director will be invited to an individual Exit
Interview with the Artistic Director to discuss the process and its
outcome. |
